Sell Your Stuff.

You have that room in the house — piled with all the things you never use — yet believe it should be kept.

Don’t worry. You're not alone. The vast majority of us own too much stuff. Stuff that ranges from: ‘I picked this up off the ground’ all the way to ‘my grandmother left me this before she died’. The majority of things we own tend to fall into the bracket of, ‘this is unnecessary, but I am still going to keep it’.

We just accept that our space must be filled with things we don’t need. Crazy, right? Most people never take a step back to assess why they own all these things in the first place.

Let’s discuss how we can find out what to keep and what to give away.

Value.
Does the thing bring value into your life? It may make you smile or make your life easier. But if it just hides away in the never-ending pile of stuff, bringing no value into your life, then you and I both know that it is not needed. Let it go. Get rid of it. We struggle to come to terms with the fact that we really don’t need all these things that are advertised to us. There does seem to be an element of fitting in with the tribe and not wanting to be weird by not having tons of ‘cool sh*t’.

How often has it been used in the last 12 months?
This is the killer question. For most of your stuff, the answer will likely be zero. Zilch. In which case, you guessed it, get rid of it! We need to be harsh otherwise we will end up keeping so many more things than needed because we kid ourselves in believing that it ‘may come in handy one day’. News flash. That ‘one day’ is never going to happen (well it might). The point is, the less things you have — the happier you will become. Don’t believe me? Put all your stuff aside and live with only the bare essential items for survival for two weeks. Chances are you will have forgotten about half the things you have lying around.

Short, heartfelt article today. I hope you enjoyed. I really do think that we are led to believe that we need all these things in our lives when really, it just holds us down and limits us to what we can do and where we can be. Let go of the things that don’t bring you value and go live your life!
